Two men have been arrested following a shootout at a northeast-side convenience store in San Antonio, officials reported. The Bexar County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) responded to calls of gunfire at the Wez Mart on the 3700 block of Candleglenn and the intersection of Mystic Sunrise and Binz-Engleman, according to a KENS5 report.
Upon arriving at the scene, deputies discovered two vehicles showing signs of gunshot damage and evidence of an altercation inside the establishment. A total of four individuals dressed in black sweatshirts were reportedly involved, Fox San Antonio reports. One of the suspects, identified as Gerrell Jenkins, was seen fleeing through a nearby field and forcibly entering a residence by breaking a rear glass door.
Jenkins sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was subsequently taken to a hospital for treatment. Surveillance footage showed him engaged in the store shootout with 18-year-old Prince Boyd and other men. Boyd also suffered a gunshot wound for which he sought treatment at a local hospital, where he was later arrested.
Authorities believe the violent event is gang-related, with Jenkins having been identified as an active gang member. Charges against Jenkins include aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, deadly conduct, burglary of a habitation, and unlawful carry of a weapon in prohibited places. Boyd faces the charge of unlawful carry of a weapon in prohibited places, as noted by the Fox San Antonio coverage. The BCSO is continuing its investigation into the incident.
