Last Friday evening, a retail theft at Vacaville Premium Outlets led to the arrest of two women from Richmond, one with multiple serious charges pending. According to CBS Sacramento, an employee witnessed a woman stealing clothing and alerted the authorities, who initiated a coordinated response leveraging city surveillance and drone technology to track the suspects' vehicle.
With the vehicle eventually entering westbound Interstate 80, identified quickly by the drone team, 50-year-old Emelda Miles and 38-year-old Antoinique Bryant were pulled over and found to have about $700 in stolen merchandise in plain view. They were arrested and later booked into Solano County Jail on suspicion of shoplifting and conspiracy. Miles, who was seen jumping into the vehicle right after the theft, notably has three additional outstanding felony warrants related to burglary, grand theft, and organized retail theft, one warrant holding a bail amount of $100,000, as reported by FOX40.
In response to the incident and the approaching holiday season, which often sees an uptick in retail crime, the Vacaville Police Department has announced an increased police presence in shopping areas. "Thanks to that employee's quick call, and the detailed description they provided, the teamwork began immediately," police said in a statement, as mentioned by CBS Sacramento.
Both CBS Sacramento and FOX40 stress that the Vacaville police are prepared for the holiday season's retail theft increase with more officers scheduled to patrol busy shopping locales. The suspects' vehicle was towed, and the dedicated teamwork of dispatchers, analysts, and officers is credited with the successful interception of the two allegedly involved in the theft.
