On a brisk Friday evening at LaGuardia Airport, two United Airlines flights got a bit too close for comfort, resulting in a ground incident that thankfully culminated without injury. According to ABC7NY, the scenario unfolded when United flight 580 was maneuvering towards its gate and unexpectedly brushed against the tail of United flight 434, which was awaiting its turn on the taxiway.
The contact, while seemingly minor, caused an interruption in the airport's routine, both aircraft promptly made their way back to the gate where passengers disembarked without further incident, and although having to deplane is never the highlight after a long flight, thankfully none of the passengers reported injuries which is ultimately the most crucial outcome in events such as these. PIX11 relayed that hundreds were on board the aircrafts at the time, a collective sigh of relief can be felt knowing a major crisis was averted.
Following the taxiway collision, United Airlines took steps to address travel disruptions for its passengers. A spokesperson said the company is focused on getting customers to their destinations safely and as quickly as possible. The airline is also reviewing the situation as it manages the effects of the incident.
Investigations are underway to determine how the two aircraft came into contact despite safety protocols. Operations at LaGuardia Airport have since resumed, and United Airlines is working to assess the damage and prevent similar incidents in the future.
