Universal Orlando's latest theme park, Epic Universe, might be gearing up to get even more... well, epic. A new construction permit has come to light, indicating a possible expansion at the park that could see a 150,000-square-foot development sprout up. WESH discovered the permit, which was filed last week with Orange County and commissioned by design firm Baker Barrios Architects Inc. Though the details are scant, the permit specifies "site utilities" and "foundation work," giving us the barest hints of something substantial on the horizon.

While Universal Orlando Resort hasn't made any formal announcements regarding this newly uncovered project, the park's expansion trajectory isn't a well-kept secret. "We have a slate of new attractions that are already in development for every one of our parks," Universal Orlando president Karen Irwin has previously claimed, as FOX 35 Orlando reported.

Strategic planning seems to be Universal's modus operandi, as evident in remarks by Mark Woodbury, CEO of Universal Destinations & Experiences. "If you fly over Epic or you look at Google Earth, you'll see how we plan the park and you'll see greenfield space between the existing worlds, and that is strategically positioned to give us flexibility to expand a world or create a new world," Woodbury said, as per WESH. This forward-thinking design leaves the door wide open to construct new, immersive experiences without having to upend the existing park layout.
