Motorists in the Rockwall area should prepare for a series of planned lane closures affecting Interstate 30 and its vicinity starting December 1, running through December 6. The closures, detailed by Rockwall County, are due to bridge activities and road works, including embankment construction and drainage installations.
The John King overpass will experience multiple closures in both directions, with the East to West and West to East U-turn lanes being shut down intermittently during daytime hours from 9 A.M. to 3 P.M., and again overnight between 9 P.M. and 5 A.M. These closures, while periodic, are to strategically occur when bridge activities take place, aiming to minimize traffic disruptions.
FM 548 will see daytime flagging operations between 9 A.M. and 3 P.M. due to embankment work, removals, and bridge operations near Pond Branch. John King Boulevard will be under full closure in both directions overnight, with the setup expected to provide minimal impact as bridge work is conducted. In addition to these works, I-30 Westbound's right lane from Erby Campbell to FM 3549 will be closed overnight for embankment placement along a drop-off area.
An additional flagging operation will command attention on the I-30 Eastbound Frontage Road from FM 551 to Erby Campbell, where crews will set to methodically unload drainage boxes and install low-profile concrete barriers during daytime hours. Contractor crews have communicated that they will coordinate with emergency services, including EMS, fire, and police departments, to ensure that access is maintained through the closure for emergencies, as has been stated in an advisory from Rockwall County officials.
