The Hawai‘i Department of Health's Food and Drug Branch has announced a recall of ByHeart Whole Nutrition Infant Formula due to possible Clostridium botulinum contamination, affecting batches 251261P2 and 251131P2 with a 'Use By' date of December 1, 2026, sold through retailers like Target, Amazon, and ByHeart’s website. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration and local authorities are urging caregivers to stop using these batches and are working with retailers to remove them from shelves, according to the Hawai‘i Department of Health.
Infants consuming the contaminated formula may show symptoms such as constipation, poor feeding, drooping eyelids, sluggish pupils, and breathing difficulties, which can lead to respiratory failure. The Hawai‘i Department of Health's Food and Drug Branch advises seeking immediate medical attention if any of these symptoms appear after using the recalled product, as reported by the Hawai‘i Department of Health.
The Hawai‘i Department of Health advises anyone with the recalled ByHeart infant formula to stop using it, throw it away, or return it for a refund, checking the batch code and best if used by date on the bottom of the can. Clean all items used to prepare or serve the formula with hot, soapy water. ByHeart Inc. can be contacted at [email protected] or 1-833-429-4327. Authorities are working with retailers and ask the public to check all formula products and keep feeding items clean.
