In Vallejo, what began as a routine traffic incident quickly escalated into a more tragic affair when a suspected DUI crash resulted in injuries to an innocent child and another motorist. According to the Vallejo Police Department's social media post, the collision occurred in the area of Sonoma Boulevard and Lewis Brown Drive last Thursday, around 10:08 PM.
Reports state that officers from the Vallejo Police Department Patrol Division were dispatched in response to the accident involving a Nissan Frontier and a Hyundai Santa Fe. Upon arrival, a witness quickly pointed officers to a male individual attempting to depart from the crash site. This individual was later identified as the driver of the Nissan and, more unsettlingly, had his child in the vehicle during the time of the incident. The Vallejo Police Department detailed that the officers observed the man holding his crying child while conducting a welfare check.
The subsequent investigation by the officers revealed clear signs of alcohol impairment, corroborated by the presence of open beer containers found near the driver's door and in the truck bed. The dire consequences of the driver's actions became painfully apparent as his own child admitted to being hurt in the collision, later being transported by EMS to a local hospital, joined by the sole occupant of the other vehicle involved. The child's mother was informed and arrived at the hospital to assume custody of her son.
The driver was arrested on charges of felony driving under the influence of alcohol and child endangerment. Thankfully, the police department reported that the child did not sustain any life-threatening injuries in the accident. The man's vehicle was impounded, and he was booked into Solano County Jail.
