Officers Located Suspect, Recovered Gun

According to Hawaii News Now, District 3 patrol officers with the Honolulu Police Department were called to a disturbance at the Aniani Place residence at about 2:44 p.m.

The Honolulu Police Department said that during the argument, the 31-year-old man allegedly pulled out a handgun and fired a single round into the air while a victim stood nearby. Officers located the suspect shortly afterward, recovered the firearm and arrested him on suspicion of first-degree reckless endangering, according to the department.

Hawaii News Now reported that no one was hurt. Authorities are asking anyone with information to call 911 or Honolulu CrimeStoppers at (808) 955-8300.

What The Charge Entails

Under state law, "reckless endangering in the first degree" includes intentionally firing a firearm in a way that recklessly puts another person at risk of death or serious bodily injury and is classified as a class C felony, according to the Hawaii Revised Statutes. That classification means prosecutors can pursue felony charges, with penalties depending on the eventual conviction and specifics of the case. The department did not release the suspect's name in the Honolulu Police Department news release, and investigators say the case remains active.
