Houston police are looking for 18-year-old Isaias Armando Coc Xol after a double shooting at a westside apartment complex in November. Two men were killed: 30-year-old Rafael Xe Rax and 21-year-old Jose Cuz Shol. Coc Xol has been charged with capital murder.
HPD's account and the charge
According to the Houston Police Department news release, Coc Xol was charged last Saturday in the 228th Criminal District Court after detectives collected evidence and surveillance footage that allegedly placed him at the scene at 6347 Windswept Lane. Police say the shootings happened around 7:35 p.m. on November 7, and Coc Xol has not been arrested. Investigators have released a recent photo of him and say they are actively chasing down tips.
What happened at Windswept Lane
As reported by Click2Houston, officers were first called to the 6300 block of Windswept Lane for an assault and arrived to find a man with gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital, where he later died. While officers were still working that scene, they were notified about another man lying on a nearby sidewalk, also shot. Paramedics pronounced him dead there. Investigators say the two shootings are believed to be connected.
Search for the suspect
HPD reports that Coc Xol remains at large and that homicide detectives want to hear from anyone who recognizes him or knows where he might be. The department attached surveillance stills and a recent photo to its public appeal for information. Officials say tips can be submitted directly to HPD or through Crime Stoppers and add that every credible lead will be checked out.
Legal stakes
Coc Xol faces a capital murder charge, which Texas classifies as a capital felony when certain aggravating factors are present, such as killing more than one person during the same criminal episode. Under state law, a conviction for capital murder can result in life in prison without parole or the death penalty, with prosecutors deciding whether to pursue capital punishment. Texas Penal Code § 19.03 lays out the qualifying elements and potential penalties.
How to help
Anyone with information about Coc Xol's whereabouts is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS. Police say anonymous tips are welcome and stress that residents should call right away if they believe they have spotted the suspect.
