A chilling discovery was made by Windsor Middle School students during a field trip at Foothill Regional Park yesterday, as a concealed firearm was stumbled upon by one of the young explorers. The Town of Windsor Police Department conveyed through social media that the sharp-eyed student located the firearm hidden under a log and branches while gathering materials to learn survival skills.
The incident unfolds a month after a report by the Town of Windsor Police Department, CA, recounting a crash in the area of Arata Lane and Davida Court, involving several juveniles, where the juvenile driver was later arrested for charges including felony hit and run, and felony child endangerment and their statement lead authorities on an extensive but fruitless search for the weapon, the young student's discovery has linked the seemingly separate events.
The student who found the weapon briefly handled it before wisely alerting a teacher, stated the Windsor Police Department. Law enforcement was immediately contacted and promptly arrived at the scene to take control and custodianship of the firearm, securing the area and ensuring student safety was paramount.
This firearm is suspected to be connected to the October 19 vehicular accident after a juvenile driver, who later admitted to tossing what he claimed he thought was a pellet gun into the park, was apprehended, detailed the Windsor Police Department in their social media briefing, although exhaustive searches conducted by various agencies, including the Sonoma County Search and Rescue Team, initially turned up empty despite the juvenile providing a map of the firearm's supposed location.
