A Wisconsin man is among two individuals arrested in an alleged murder-for-hire scheme in suburban Chicago, according to authorities. The Lake County Sheriff's Office announced that 28-year-old Cristian N. Ruval-Cavatorres of Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, was taken into custody following a coordinated investigation into the shooting of a 46-year-old man in Beach Park. As ABC 7 Chicago reported, the victim was found critically injured early Wednesday morning, having been shot while warming up his vehicle outside his home.
Detectives, after reviewing neighborhood surveillance footage, identified a vehicle linked to the incident. The subsequent arrest of Ruval-Cavatorres unearthed evidence suggesting the involvement of a second party who allegedly commissioned the shooting. Despite the severe injury suffered by the victim, who was taken to a trauma center in extremely critical condition by a family member, no details regarding his current state have been provided. The second suspect was apprehended in North Chicago; however, at the time of reporting, names and charges are pending, as per information obtained by NBC Chicago.
Ruval-Cavatorres now faces multiple charges, including Attempted First-Degree Murder, Aggravated Battery with a Firearm, and Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm. Details emerged that investigators managed to track him to his Wisconsin residence after identifying the vehicle's owner. Following a traffic stop conducted by local police, Lake County sheriff's detectives found him and took him into custody.
The apprehension of the suspected mastermind behind the plot was the result of diligent detective work. Arrested on Thursday, the suspected individual behind the orchestration of the act was detained along Park Avenue in North Chicago. According to information shared by the Lake County Sheriff's Office, the weapon believed to have been used in the crime, along with a phone speculated to facilitate communication between Ruval-Cavatorres and the person who hired him, was found during a search. Both the gun and the phone were recovered from Ruval-Cavatorres's residence, as stated by ABC 7 Chicago.
The charges against both suspects are a grave reminder of the alarming mechanisms through which life can be targeted with monetary transactions' cold calculation.
