Houston police are investigating after a 33-year-old woman was found shot to death on Wednesday at a storage facility along the 6400 block of the Eastex Freeway service road. Officers responded around 10:10 a.m., where Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced the woman dead at the scene.
Detectives K. Stringer and J. Caten from the HPD Homicide Division are leading the investigation under incident number 145228725. The victim’s identity is being confirmed by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences, and no suspect information has been released.
Scene details
Local reports said the shooting happened at a self-storage and U-Haul facility in the 6400 block of the Eastex Freeway service road near King and Tuscon streets. FOX 26 Houston and Click2Houston noted small differences in the reported call time, but both said homicide detectives responded to investigate the incident.
What police are asking
Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the shooting or has relevant information to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS. The department also provided a media relations line at 713-308-3280 for press inquiries. Detectives said forensic teams are working to confirm the victim's identity while the investigation continues.
Local context
The slaying comes as city officials and researchers have raised concerns about a rise in homicides in Houston this year, reversing a broader national decline. The Houston Chronicle reported earlier that homicides were up compared with 2024, an uptick that officials say warrants closer study as investigators pursue individual cases.
