An 18-year-old man from Woodland lost his life and four others were injured in a devastating head-on collision on Highway 50 near Camp Sacramento, according to reports from The Sacramento Bee. The incident, which took place last night before 7:20 p.m., involved an eastbound Jeep Compass and a westbound Ford F-250 truck towing a sizable 32-foot trailer.
The accident was triggered when the pickup, driven by a 32-year-old man from Lathrop, approached a curve at a speed deemed unsafe by authorities, causing the trailer to swing into the opposite lane and collide with the Jeep carrying the victims. The Sacramento Bee further explained the trailer lost control, which then led to the crash; the Jeep's front passenger, the young man who died, bore the brunt of the impact. The Jeep's 37-year-old female driver and three boys aged 16, 13, and 6 were also injured, with the eldest among the children suffering major injuries, while the youngest sustained moderate injuries; the other two occupants suffered minor injuries, and all were transported to Barton Memorial Hospital for treatment.
In a separate account by CBS Sacramento, it was revealed that their sources confirmed the tragic loss of the young 18-year-old and detailed the injuries of the SUV's occupants that ranged from minor to major. The driver of the pickup truck emerged from the crash without physical harm.
As the investigation into the crash continues by the CHP’s South Lake Tahoe office, witnesses have been urged to step forward and provide any helpful information – Officer Julie Heitzman is handling inquiries, as per the contact details shared by The Sacramento Bee. The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office has not yet released the name of the deceased, as the coroner’s division is still completing the required procedures.
