Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT), along with contractor crews, has started turning on new traffic signals at several intersections on State Route 7/Pacific Avenue South in Parkland and Spanaway. These signals include push buttons that turn the light red to stop traffic and allow people to cross. This work is part of a larger project to improve pedestrian safety along the corridor.

The effort has focused on sections of SR 7, where the new signals are installed on mast arms and poles. They remain green until activated. According to WSDOT, 10 signals have been turned on so far. Travelers should expect to stop more often in these areas. One remaining signal at SR 7 and 155th Street South has not yet been activated, and WSDOT states that its start date is still being finalized.

As the project nears completion, WSDOT notes that travelers may see daytime lane closures. These closures are needed to add permanent pavement markings. To help reduce unexpected delays, commuters are encouraged to check the WSDOT app or the statewide travel map for real-time updates on lane closures and construction work, especially during periods of dry weather.
