Early this morning, a 20-year-old woman experienced a harrowing event as her car was repeatedly shot at while she was driving in Southwest Philadelphia, according to the police. The shooting occurred at the intersection of 51st and Greenway Ave, with detectives finding nine shell casings at the scene, as 6abc reported.
The victim, who had just finished her work shift and was en route to her family's home, was struck by broken glass rather than bullets; the car's windshield and driver's window were left with visible bullet holes, she drove half a block with broken glass in her face before relatives came to her aid, they called the police and took her to a nearby hospital where it was determined her injuries were not from gunfire but from shattered glass, "Initially, staff at the hospital believed that she may have been shot but they recently told us that she has injuries from the driver's door glass that broke from a bullet that passed through," Chief Inspector Scott Small said, as reported by 6abc.
The woman continued driving after the incident, reaching the 1300 block of South Paxton Street, where her family members reside, and where police later took her statement, as detailed in NBC Philadelphia's coverage. Small confirmed that investigators found bullet holes in the Chevy sedan's driver's side window and mirror.
