The Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed the recovery of 19-year-old Stephen Bull, who was reported missing and subsequently found deceased in the Woody Creek area, near Upper River Road. As reported by 9NEWS, Bull had been missing since December 2, and following an exhaustive search effort by more than ten agencies, his body was located on Saturday.
Efforts to locate the missing teenager began in locations where Bull was known to frequent and soon expanded to broader areas as more information surfaced. Weather conditions and challenging terrains exacerbated the complexity of the search. According to The Aspen Times, these efforts included "coordinated ground searches, canine teams, multiple drone operations, aerial support, and investigative work," which were persistently hampered by environmental factors.
The search was spearheaded by Mountain Rescue Aspen and involved significant support from various local and regional agencies, reflecting a deep collective effort to find young Bull. The extensive search included numerous volunteer hours and resources from organizations such as the Colorado Search and Rescue Association and the Search and Rescue Dogs of the United States (SARDUS), to name a few.
In extending sympathies to the family, the Pitkin County Sheriff's Office stressed gratitude for the patience and cooperation of Bull's family during this tragic event. Communication from the Sheriff's Office, acquired by Pitkin County News, further notes the availability of local support resources such as the Aspen Hope Center, offering crisis intervention and mental health services to those affected within the community.
