The Yuba County Sheriff's Department reported that last Thursday, deputies found the body of 82-year-old Constance Laurel of Yuba City burning near Smartsville. Authorities quickly launched an investigation involving multiple agencies, including CAL FIRE and local district attorney offices, as reported by the Yuba County Sheriff’s Department.
Vincent Dorell Ciulei, 50, Laurel’s nephew, was arrested in connection with the fire. He was charged with arson last Friday, as stated by the Yuba County Sheriff's Department.
According to the Yuba County Sheriff’s Department on their Facebook page, the Sutter County District Attorney’s Office has filed arson charges against Ciulei, who was arraigned at the Sutter County Superior Court at 3:00 p.m. The death of Constance Laurel is still being treated as suspicious, and authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the Yuba City Police Department at (530) 822-4661.
