A tragic incident unfolded in Carroll County when a 73-year-old woman was killed in a vehicle collision, according to a report by Maryland State Police. The crash, involving a maroon 2017 Dodge Ram and a 1989 International dump truck, occurred on Littlestown Pike and claimed the life of Sandra Stigler from Littlestown, Pennsylvania.
Emergency services pronounced Stigler dead at the scene, while the dump truck driver, Matthew Lee Dell from Manchester, Maryland, miraculously survived without injury. Responding after 1:30 pm, troopers from the Westminster Barrack arrived at the 3000 Block of Littlestown Pike, where the fatal incident happened between Old Hanover and Saw Mill Road, where, for reasons still unknown, the dump truck veered across the double yellow center line, colliding with Stigler's pickup truck.
Support at the accident site was also provided by deputies from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office. The lanes, affected by the accident, were reopened post the investigation at around 5:20 pm. The Maryland State Police Crash Team has taken the lead on an active and ongoing investigation into the crash, as mentioned in the Maryland State Police official release.
