Bloomington's parks and recreation scene is set to gain new leadership, with the City announcing the appointment of Aaron Biggs as the Recreation Services General Manager for the Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department. An alumnus of Indiana University, Biggs brings to the table a Bachelor of Science in Recreation Sport Management.
Having most recently served as the Director of Retail & Hospitality for the Chocolate Moose Company, Biggs's familiarity with the local community is seen as an asset. A statement released by the City of Bloomington yesterday, December 3, quoted Leslie Brinson, Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Services Division Director, noting that Biggs's experience at the Indiana State Fair, IU Auditorium and Chocolate Moose demonstrates a clear understanding of community services. "With years of event- and service-focused experience with organizations including the Indiana State Fair, IU Auditorium, and Chocolate Moose, Aaron understands what it means to serve a community with energy and care," Brinson said.
Biggs expressed his enthusiasm for being back with the Bloomington Parks and Recreation, a touchpoint to his beginnings as an intern, personal trainer, fitness instructor, and Staff Assistant of Operations at the City of Bloomington Twin Lakes Recreation Center. "I am excited to be back with Bloomington Parks and Recreation, and to continue my career where it all started," Aaron told the City of Bloomington in a statement. He's driven by the prospect of delivering quality recreational opportunities and experiences to the community he knows well.
In his new role, Biggs will be handling an array of responsibilities, including managing the annual community events program budget and overseeing various community initiatives. Among these are the Bloomington Community Farmers' Market, the Performing Arts Series of concerts in city parks, the Community Gardening program and the Department's health, and wellness initiatives.
