Moviegoers of West Homestead are in for a treat with the theater's comprehensive updates, which include remodeled lobbies, restrooms, and flooring that run the full length of the cinema, according to a WPXI report. The stepping up of their game began in April and reached completion in late October, with guests now welcomed to plush new "rockers" or recliners, featuring a toasty heating element, taking comfort to the next level.
While regular screens boast AMC's signature seating, the non-premium theaters have seen their capacities reduced; for example, one such theater's capacity has dropped from over 200 seats to a mere 107, as TribLIVE noted. However, with renovations come the perks, and guests over 21 have something extra to cheer about—an all-new MacGuffins Bar serves up beer, wine, and cocktails for those who like a bit of buzz with their blockbuster.
Cassie Ward, AMC on-site general manager, shared with TribLIVE the drive behind the revamp, "’Wicked’ in particular was a busy weekend for AMC, but it was very busy here, because people travel. If you’re going to see a movie on the big screen, you want to see it on the biggest, best screen possible." Indeed, this expansion of luxury doesn't end with seating. The premium formats, including Dolby and IMAX screens, are now fronted by "portals" – a theatrical gateway that enhances the moviegoing venture.
Challenges were met by carefully staggering the construction process. The theater remained operational during the renovations, taking one side out of service and then the other, to ensure the magic of the movies stayed uninterrupted.
