Last night, Apex residents may have noticed an unusual flurry of police activity and the glow of blue emergency lights along W. Williams St., specifically around Olive Chapel Rd. This was due to a situation that commenced with an Apex Police Department officer observing a motorcycle moving in what was described as a careless and reckless manner near Beaver Creek Shopping Center, as reported by the Apex Police Department's social media post.
Upon the officer's attempt to initiate a traffic stop, the motorcycle's operator chose to flee, subsequently leading to the officer discontinuing the pursuit due to safety protocols, however, just moments after the disengagement a crash was discovered by the authorities in front of Apex Funeral Home where apparently the motorcycle had collided with another vehicle and the cyclist managed slipping away on foot into the surrounding wooded terrain. Additional police units were dispatched to the site and swiftly established a perimeter which eventually resulted in locating the suspect on Apex Peakway near the Bryan Dr. intersection, according to details shared by the Apex Police Department's social media update.
This sequence of events also involved the retrieval of a handgun from the scene, a revelation adding gravity to the already tense unfolding, while the individual involved which we now know was apprehended with minor injuries was subsequently hospitalized but is set to be transported to the Wake County Detention Center once medically cleared. Apex Police Department underscored the effectiveness of the operation and the resilience of their officers through their commendatory post asserting, "This is just one example of the great work our officers do each and every day."
