The holiday season brings with it a swell of pines, spruces, and firs standing sentinel in the living quarters of Arlington's residents, but the finery of tinsel and baubles must eventually give way to the question of what to do with these festive trees when the season's cheer has ebbed. The City of Arlington offers a solution for those looking to dispose of their yuletide evergreens sustainably, with Christmas tree recycling options available from December 26, 2025, to January 15, 2026.

According to the City of Arlington, residents and businesses can drop off their unadorned trees at two locations: the Arlington Landfill on Mosier Valley Road and Calloway's Nursery on S. Cooper Street. The landfill offers its services Monday through Saturday with opening hours from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., weather permitting. Given the unpaved thoroughfares, which are susceptible to muddy conditions, lighter vehicles are advised to head to Calloway's Nursery instead, which will be accepting trees from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.

For would-be recyclers, the City has shared some elementary tips to ensure a smooth recycling process. All decorations, lights, ornaments, and even the tree stand should be removed before recycling. Notably, the trees must not be wrapped in plastic bags, and surprisingly, flocked trees can still make the cut for recycling. On the other hand, trees left curbside will not join their compostable kin but will instead be collected as trash, and any tree over six feet in length destined for the trash must be bisected.
