In a notable achievement for Arlington's education system, four high schools in the Arlington Independent School District (AISD) have been distinguished by U.S. News & World Report for their academic excellence. Among the celebrated are Arlington Collegiate High School, Arlington College and Career High School, Martin High School, and Seguin High School, all recognized for their stellar educational outcomes and student success. This distinction places them in the top echelon of public high schools nationwide.
The rankings, bestowed by a comprehensive evaluation, took into account several key measures such as college readiness and state assessment performance. Additionally, factors like curriculum breadth, outcomes for underserved students, and graduation rates were all part of the criteria. In Texas, the two early college high schools, which allow students to earn a high school diploma and an associate degree concurrently, boast a 90% success rate; a figure that far outstrips the state average of 40%. Jeff Krieger, principal of Arlington Collegiate, expressed pride in their daily commitment, “We are excited for this honor because it shows those outside our campus the hard work our teachers and students put in every day at Arlington Collegiate High School,” he told the City of Arlington.
Martin High School and Seguin High School, the district's traditional high schools, were also celebrated for maintaining a culture of excellence. Seguin's Principal Billy Linson remarked on the communal effort behind their achievement, “At #SeguinNation, ‘Where Excellence is the Standard,’ we are grateful for all of our stakeholders – students, staff, and parents – who played a role in achieving this honor,” as per the City of Arlington. Marlene Roddy, the principal at Martin High School, acknowledged the accolade with an eye to the future, “We are proud of the work by our staff and students who are at the heart of this accomplishment. We will continue to set goals that address student achievement and success with the hopes that we can sustain our mission and momentum in future years,” she explained.
