A brazen daylight robbery has shaken the employees and customers at EZ Pawn in Memphis. At approximately 10:28 a.m. on Wednesday, an armed individual stormed into the establishment and opened fire, causing panic and fear among those present. According to the Memphis Police Department, the suspect walked around the store before exiting and re-entering with a firearm and a wrench, with which he shattered a jewelry display case and fired several shots toward the checkout area.
While reportedly claiming to be "nervous," the assailant proceeded to rapidly grab the jewels and demanded the contents of the cash registers. The suspect then fled the scene on foot, disappearing northbound on Garland Street. He has been described as a Black male with a thin build and a medium to dark complexion, and was seen wearing glasses, gloves, and a camouflage face mask. This descriptor, as detailed by the official report, is part of a dedicated call for assistance from anyone who may have information leading to his apprehension.
The Memphis community is now to fully come to grips with the ramifications of this crime. The EZ Pawn, located at 1410 Poplar Avenue, is just one of many local businesses that rely on the pre-holiday season for boosted sales and customer engagement. As workers and patrons alike continue to process the events, local law enforcement is urging the public to step forward with any information. "Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH (2274)," the Memphis Police Department has emphasized.
