Atlantic Beach residents can dispose of Christmas trees through the city’s yard waste collection service, with a holiday schedule adjustment. If a regular Thursday pickup fell on Christmas Day, collection will take place on Saturday, and there is no change to New Year’s Day service, according to the City of Atlantic Beach.
Trees placed curbside must have all decorations removed, should not be bagged, and must be cut down if taller than 6 feet. Apartment and condo residents should check with property managers for a designated "tree drop zone," or they may take trees directly to Old Kings Road Landfill or First Coast Mulch in Jacksonville, as reported by the City of Atlantic Beach.
St. Johns County is offering a free “Treecycle” program where residents can drop off Christmas trees at Ron Parker Park in St. Augustine from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. through early January for recycling into mulch. Officials advise that Christmas trees should not be burned in fireplaces or wood stoves, and Atlantic Beach does not allow Christmas trees to be burned on the beach, even with a permit.
