The Atlantic Beach Police Department is launching a holiday safety campaign aimed at reducing impaired driving as traffic increases during the festive season. In a recent social media post, the department urged residents and visitors to make responsible choices when celebrating, encouraging people to plan a safe ride home before drinking. Police also reminded the public that impairment is not limited to alcohol, noting that drugs and some medications can also affect driving. The department emphasized that safe decisions help protect not only drivers themselves, but also neighbors, families, children, and others sharing the road.
Part of this initiative is the nationwide "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" as stated in the Atlantic Beach Police Department campaign, which Atlantic Beach PD will participate in from last Friday, December 12 through January 1. This enforcement wave, familiar across the United States, seeks to reduce the number of drunk and drugged drivers on the road during a time traditionally associated with an uptick in social events and gatherings.
The Atlantic Beach PD is planning to increase patrols during this busy time, which means more officers out there ensuring community safety and with a clear message for residents and visitors alike – the "only waves you should be riding are the ones at the beach" – as noted on social media post.
