The city of Austin is gearing up for a varied mix of weather conditions in the upcoming week, which includes chances of sunshine, cloud coverage, and showers. According to the National Weather Service, today residents can expect a sunny day with highs hovering near 57 degrees and a calm north wind shifting directions in the afternoon.
Tonight's forecast predicts a mostly clear sky with lows dropping to around 38 degrees. Winds are expected to remain calm, shifting to the south at about 5 mph. Come Wednesday, Austin should see partly sunny skies with highs soaring up near 65, calm winds becoming south around the same speed. However, Wednesday night carries a 40 percent chance of rain, primarily before midnight, moving over a mostly cloudy sky with a dip in temperature to about 48 degrees. Light and variable winds are set to switch to the north, picking up speed to 5 to 10 mph after midnight, with potential gusts reaching up to 20 mph.
The latter part of the week might require residents to keep their umbrellas handy, as Thursday forecasters are predicting a 40 percent chance of showers amidst cloudy conditions, with chilly highs near 52 degrees. The north wind is expected to persist, traveling 10 to 15 mph and gusting as high as 25 mph. While Thursday night's shower chances decrease slightly to 40 percent before midnight, the cloudy conditions and lows around 42 will remain consistent with a continued north wind of 5 to 10 mph, which could potentially gust up to 20 mph.
By Friday, Austin starts to clear up slightly with only a lingering 20 percent chance of showers before noon. The day is slated to be mostly cloudy with a modest high near 54 degrees, calm winds becoming south southwest around 5 mph in the light of day. Moving into the weekend, the skies will generously open to more sun. Saturday forecasts boast a mostly sunny day with a high near 69 and a calm breeze possibly going southwest at 5 mph come morning. The night should remain mostly clear, leading into a sunny Sunday with highs resembling summer at 71 degrees, as lows settle around 42, the NWS reported. Monday plans to maintain the sunny streak with a high near 64.
