A stretch of I-440 East is on the docket for partial closure this coming weekend, and if you have plans that'll take you anywhere near Hillsborough Street, you might need to rethink your route. This isn't a full shutdown, but it's enough to potentially cramp your style if you're caught unawares. According to an announcement from the N.C. Department of Transportation, contracting crews will be executing pavement work on Saturday, which means one of three lanes beside the Hillsborough Street exit will be cordoned off from the rise of the morning sun at around 7 a.m. until the mid-afternoon hour of 4 p.m., weather being the only potential reprieve to the schedule.
For commuters, the N.C. Department of Transportation says this weekend’s work on I-440 East is expected to have a low impact, but drivers should still plan for possible delays and pay attention to changing traffic patterns in the work zone.
The work is part of the larger I-440 improvements project, which aims to upgrade the roadway and improve traffic flow in the long term.
