A road-rage incident on the West Sam Houston Tollway ended with an 18-wheeler driver arrested after deputies said he tried to force another motorist off the road in northwest Harris County. The targeted driver followed the truck at a safe distance, staying on the line with Precinct 5 dispatch until deputies could intervene.
Both vehicles were stopped near West Road in the southbound lanes, and the truck driver was booked for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Precinct 5’s Toll Road Division, responsible for patrols and crash response along the corridor, is continuing its investigation, according to KHOU.
Investigators later reviewed dash-cam footage from the motorist who called in the incident. That video backs up his account of what happened on the tollway, KHOU reports. Deputies were able to track the 18-wheeler and pull over both drivers near West Road, where the trucker was arrested on the aggravated-assault charge while investigators continued sorting out how the confrontation escalated.
Beltway road-rage incidents keep cropping up
Road-rage run-ins along the Beltway and nearby tollways have become a recurring theme in local crime logs, with some flare-ups turning into stabbings, shootings or reckless driving that sends vehicles off the pavement. One recent case involved multiple stabbing victims in northwest Harris County, detailed in Trio Stabbed in Road Rage, as per Hoodline.
What the aggravated-assault charge means
In Texas, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon is typically a second-degree felony and can bring prison time along with fines. The exact punishment range and any sentence enhancements depend on the specific circumstances of the case. The state’s aggravated-assault statute and related penalties are laid out in FindLaw.
Anyone who captured dash-cam video or has information about this tollway confrontation is asked to contact the Precinct 5 Toll Road Division. The office lists its dispatch number as (281) 463-6666 on the Harris County Precinct 5 site.
