According to CBS News, the incident took place shortly after 9 a.m. on Hicksville Road, near Boundary Avenue. Emergency responders, including police and ambulances, quickly arrived at the scene.
Authorities have detained a male suspect, whose identity and motive are still under investigation. As emergency services secured the scene, witnesses recounted the incident, where the suspect, appearing unruffled by the gravity of his actions, was heard admitting to the crime. "He walked out and he said 'I stabbed my parents,'" Joe Boros, a nonagenarian witness, told reporters in an interview with CBS News.
The A&A Italian Deli has been a longstanding part of the community, known for its family-oriented atmosphere for over three decades. Residents expressed their sorrow over the incident. Alicia Garbanero told CBS News, "They were absolutely wonderful. The entire community knows this deli. Everyone, you can ask anyone in the community, they all love the family. Just kind, funny, good, old fashioned Italian family. Everyone loved going in there. The food was great. It's heartbreaking."
No charges have been filed at this time against the individual in custody, though eyewitness accounts suggest a family-related incident. Witnesses reported that one of the victims’ sons may have been involved, stating they saw him inside the deli during the incident.
