The Blaine Police Department recently shone a spotlight on one of their more uniquely skilled team members – K9 Hector, a Belgian Malinois trained in patrol and detection. Revealed in a social media post, this four-year-old pup from Poland and his handler, Officer Larson, have been collaborating to better serve the community for three years now.
Handling a wide range of duties, Hector’s days are filled with grooming, playtime, and intensive training to keep his skills sharp for detecting narcotics and aiding in suspect pursuits. Still, it’s not all work—Hector is known to enjoy sharing Officer Larson’s peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Even so, the pair’s commitment to the job remains clear. "I use my nose to locate bad guys and evidence to keep Blaine safe," as stated by the Blaine Police Department.
After a long day on the job, Hector unwinds with his roommate, retired K9 Rex, in their plush dog run—a well-earned break after hours spent helping keep Blaine’s streets safe. The pair also engages with the community by handing out stickers and demonstrating their skills at K9 events, efforts aimed at strengthening ties between residents and their four-legged protectors. Officer Larson and Hector underscore the invaluable service the K9 unit provides and encourage the public to learn more about its role in maintaining safety.
