The Blood Bank of Hawaii partnered with Dave & Buster’s at Ala Moana Center for a blood drive on Dec. 26. Donors received unlimited arcade play cards after donating, helping boost the blood supply as the year winds down, KHON2 reports.
Travel and holiday activities often reduce donor turnout, but local hospitals’ demand for blood remains high. Nick Periah, Director of Community Engagement at the Blood Bank of Hawaii, told KHON2, “Lot of our donors, even first time donors are out of their routine, families are traveling but local hospital need doesn’t decrease.” Incentives are offered to help offset the seasonal decline.
The Blood Bank of Hawaii has launched the "Winter Staycation Sweepstakes," with a grand prize of a $2,000 Vacations Hawaii gift certificate. According to Hawaii News Now, entries can be earned through blood donation, scheduling a future donation, bringing a new donor, or even if deferred from donating. The sweepstakes runs through Jan. 5, 2026, and no donation is required to enter.
Those who missed the Dec. 26 event can still make appointments through the Blood Bank of Hawaii’s website. Donor Tracy Takahashi told KHON2 that giving blood can save lives and encouraged others to participate. The blood bank notes that while prizes are a bonus, the main reward is knowing a donation could make a life-saving difference.
