A high-speed pursuit ripped through Fabens, Texas, on Tuesday afternoon, briefly putting Fabens Independent School District campuses on hold as law enforcement chased a vehicle through town. The district later confirmed the hold was lifted and campuses returned to normal operations.
As reported by KTSM, a social media video credited to the FitFam account shows vehicles from U.S. Border Patrol and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office racing through the Fabens area during the pursuit. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office told KTSM that deputies assisted but that Border Patrol initiated the chase, and Border Patrol told the station it did not have information to provide at the time.
How schools responded
Fabens ISD said the hold was temporary and that classes resumed after authorities cleared the area. The district posted a “District Update” on its site that day and urged families to rely on official district channels for any alerts rather than social media chatter.
Why pursuits near schools worry locals
High-speed chases have drawn scrutiny in the border region because they can cut through sensitive locations, including school zones and residential neighborhoods. Local reporting and a county review have criticized pursuit policies and urged stricter limits to protect public safety, according to KTEP.
What officials have said so far
There were no immediate reports of injuries or arrests connected to Tuesday’s chase, and authorities had released few details about the suspect vehicle or how the pursuit ended. KTSM noted that Border Patrol did not have information to provide to reporters at the time.
The episode highlights long-running local concerns about high-speed pursuits near schools and neighborhoods. We will continue to watch official channels and update this story as agencies release more information.
