Boston residents faced a surge in stormy weather today, with an aggressive mix of heavy rain and strong winds. The National Weather Service's forecast called for rain primarily before 4 pm, with a high near 59 degrees. Winds were expected to pick up speed from a moderate 14 to 19 mph to a blustering 23 to 28 mph, potentially reaching gusts as high as 55 mph. According to the forecast, there was a 90% chance of precipitation bringing about new precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch.
Boston25News reported a similar outlook, noting that Friday storms could bring damaging winds, particularly along hilltops and coastlines. "Scattered, minor wind damage is probable with this level of wind," they highlighted, cautioning against potential power outages and tree damage, as well as damage to holiday décor not properly secured. Despite the onslaught, flooding was deemed unlikely, though brief road hazard conditions could occur with the more intense downpours.
As Bostonians weather the storm, a change is forecasted post-precipitation. Following the evening's scattered rain, which might mix with a few snowflakes, the weather is set to clear, leaning into a mostly clear night with lows plummeting to around 27 degrees. However, the wind continues to be a bracing presence, with the west wind clocking in at 16 to 21 mph and gusts potentially cresting at 38 mph, as per the National Weather Service.
The weekend promises a reprieve from the stormy conditions with Saturday's forecast featuring mostly sunny skies and a high near 39, complemented by a west wind 7 to 10 mph and gusts as high as 28 mph. Sunday is touted as more accommodating for those with holiday shopping plans, offering milder temperatures in the mid-40s, but the warmth seems short-lived with anticipated highs near 33 come Monday.
Looking ahead, Tuesday threatens to bring snow before 3 pm, possibly mixing with rain later and continuing through the night. The chance of precipitation stands at 60% during the day, dipping to 40% during the evening. Christmas Day may also see a chance of rain amid partly sunny conditions and a high near 42, completing a week of variable and challenging weather conditions for the people of Boston.
