The long arm of the Boston Police has finally reached out to Jose Peguero, a 36-year-old Boston man, after a thorough investigation into a hit-and-run that culminated in a grim Sunday night in Jamaica Plain earlier this October. According to the Boston Police Department's report, Peguero was apprehended yesterday by the department's Fugitive Unit and now faces numerous charges, including Motor Vehicle Homicide and Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle.
The tragic incident, which took the life of one pedestrian and left another with serious injuries, occurred on October 5 at approximately 9:38 p.m. The police were called to the scene at 101 South Huntington Avenue, where it was reported that a Chevrolet TrailBlazer had struck two pedestrians in the marked crosswalk before trying to escape. The vehicle, registered to Peguero, was eventually located and seized by Boston PD's Fatal Collision Investigative Team.
Investigators uncovered video evidence which showed the vehicle engaging in erratic driving behavior, crossing into opposite lanes, and subsequently hitting the pedestrians. Post-collision, Peguero failed to report the accident or reclaim his impounded vehicle. The ongoing investigation pieced together Peguero's movements and connected him to the vehicle both before and after the fatal crash took place.
Among the charges listed by the authorities, Peguero is expected to be arraigned for offenses that include Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Collision After Causing Personal Injury or Death and Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon (Motor Vehicle). The arraignment will take place at West Roxbury District Court, where Jose Peguero will face the legal consequences of the actions of that fateful evening.
