The Brentwood Police Department is beefing up patrols and checkpoints to crack down on impaired-driving this holiday season, in a concerted effort with the Tennessee Highway Safety Office (THSO). Together, they’re executing the THSO's Booze It and Lose It campaign, a part of the wider Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over movement that's gaining traction across the nation and continues through January 2, 2026.
In response to the sobering statistic, expecting over 35,000 deaths due to traffic accidents across the US this year, including more than 1,000 Tennesseeans, extra enforcement will zero in on intoxicated motorists, lead-footed drivers, and those distracted by the glow of their handheld devices. Brentwood Police Chief Jim Colvin underlined the campaign's urgency, stating on Brentwood's official website, "Please use this campaign as an opportunity to address the dangers of speeding, distracted driving, and impaired driving with the ones you love."
The initiative casts a wide net; not only is there an uptick in state and national awareness about the perils of drinking and driving, but the THSO and BPD are also going all-in with sobriety checkpoints and high visibility patrols designed to drag down the grim statistics of drunk-driving wrecks, injuries, and death tolls. "Approximately 35,000 lives will be lost to fatal traffic accidents in the United States this year, including more than 1,000 Tennessee residents,” said BPD Police Chief Jim Colvin, hoping the campaign will serve as a wake-up call.
