A high-rise apartment building in the Bronx experienced a significant fire last night, with firefighters from multiple units working to contain flames that affected several floors. According to ABC7NY, the fire occurred at 1965 Lafayette Ave. in the Soundview neighborhood. Video shared via the Citizen App showed flames coming from the windows of the upper floors as crews worked to extinguish the fire.
The fire, which affected three floors of the residential building, resulted in one person sustaining minor injuries. Firefighters received the call just before 10 p.m. and brought the blaze under control shortly afterward.
News 12 The Bronx reported that a resident said the fire began in a bedroom on the 20th floor of the high-rise. The resident, who shares a three-bedroom apartment with four roommates, confirmed that all occupants were safe, though three pets remain unaccounted for following the fire. The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
