Brooklyn rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine, born Daniel Hernandez, has been ordered to serve an additional three months in prison for violating the terms of his supervised release. This comes after incidents in which Hernandez admitted to assaulting a man and possessing small amounts of narcotics, as reported by CBS News.
Hernandez's recent legal troubles seem to continuously send him back behind bars. During a court appearance in Manhattan, he was handed down the sentence by a judge who seemed to recognize a pattern in Hernandez's behavior, stating "From time to time your actions suggest that you believe that ordinary rules don't apply to you," as per CBS News. These remarks were a clear indication that the justice system wasn't going to overlook his repeated infractions.
The 29-year-old artist's entanglement with the law isn't new to those following his career trajectory. Hernandez had previously pleaded guilty in 2018 to charges related to his involvement with the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods — a notorious New York gang. Despite his cooperation with authorities which led to a more lenient two-year sentence followed by supervised release, Hernandez appears to struggle with abiding by the law's boundaries. In an effort to freely express his encounters, Hernandez described to the court how he and his family had been menaced, saying, "Unknown individuals left a coffin in front of my house with an animal in it to send me a message," and that, "Three masked gunmen held my mom at gunpoint," CBS News reported.
This sentence arrives after a series of violations including travel without permission, failure to comply with drug testing, and a positive test for methamphetamines which earned him a 45-day sentence late the previous year. Hernandez is scheduled to report to the Metropolitan Detention Center in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, on January 6, according to ABC7NY. His lawyer's request for six months of home confinement was denied, indicating the court's decision to uphold a strict stance on his non-compliance.
