Highlighting a new achievement in cultural recognition, Brownwood, Texas, has been officially dubbed a Music Friendly Texas Certified Community. This designation, announced by Governor Greg Abbott, is a nod to Brownwood's commitment to supporting the music industry, which is a significant economic driver in the state of Texas. The Texas Music Office (TMO) awarded the certification after a detailed process, affirming the city's readiness to contribute to the flourishing Texan music scene. Governor Abbott's office said, "The Texas music industry accounts for more than 196,000 direct and indirect permanent jobs and generates over $31 billion in annual economic activity statewide," as stated by the Office of the Texas Governor.
Welcoming the designation, Brownwood's local leadership expressed optimism for the future. City of Brownwood Mayor Stephen E. Haynes shared his enthusiasm, expressing that this new status will not only promote the city's musical assets but also elevate its appeal as a tourism destination. In addition, the city's Deputy City Manager, Ray Tipton, is hopeful that the recognition will enhance live music events and boost collaboration within the community. Senator Phil King also cheered on the announcement, pointing out that the Brownwood Event Center will likely play a key role in helping sustain the community's musical legacy.
As the 92nd Music Friendly Texas Certified Community, Brownwood joins a growing list of Texan cities that have positioned themselves as hubs of musical activity, innovation, and economic growth. The official ceremony to honor Brownwood's certification will take place on December 13, as part of the city's Yuletide Express: A Vintage Christmas Journey event, as reported by the Office of the Texas Governor. The celebration is set to feature city officials, community leaders, and Gini Mascorro, TMO's Community Relations and Outreach Specialist, who will present the designation.
The TMO, functioning under the wing of the Governor's Texas Economic Development & Tourism Office, has been a pioneer since 1990 in promoting music business development throughout Texas. The program has built an extensive network, enabling more than 80 community partners to amplify their local music scenes.
