Jordan Shipley, the Burnet native and former Texas Longhorns wide receiver, has quietly turned a slice of local history into a hometown hangout. He and his wife, Sunny, are behind Airy Mount, a coffee, ice cream, and mercantile spot inside the restored Craddock House on the edge of Burnet. The husband-and-wife project started welcoming customers in November and was designed as a laid-back gathering place for locals and Hill Country passersby.
Historic House Becomes A Neighborhood Shop
The Craddock House, a century-old home that was moved to the Airy Mount property instead of being demolished, is now the heart of the business. The couple bought the site nearly five years ago, according to FOX 7 Austin. The outlet reports that during the remodel, the Shipleys emphasized preserving original paint and antiques, then opened the doors to the public last month.
Menu, Merch, And A Small-Town Vibe
Airy Mount serves craft coffee and D'lites ice cream and also runs a small mercantile stocked with Shipley Ranches caps and other local goods, according to the shop's website. Airy Mount lists its hours and menu online and features the caps and other items available for sale. "We love good quality coffee," Sunny Shipley told FOX 7 Austin, adding that the space is meant to host gatherings and bible studies as much as it is to sell drinks and treats.
A Piece Of Burnet History
The revival of the Craddock House is part of a longer effort to protect and repurpose historic buildings on the Airy Mount property. The Daily Tribune documented the move and new purpose of the house back in 2015, and the Texas Historical Commission lists the Airy Mount barn as a recorded historic marker. Those earlier preservation moves set the stage for the kind of small-scale retail and hospitality operation the Shipleys are now running.
