Jesus Ramirez, a California man, was sentenced to 25 years in prison for human trafficking. The San Joaquin County District Attorney's Office reported that on October 31, 2022, he kidnapped his former partner and took her to a motel, where she was forced into prostitution. Ramirez, with the help of co-conspirators including a juvenile, threatened violence, blocked exits, and made the victims meet quotas while depriving them of food and other basic needs, as per KCRA.
Ramirez pleaded guilty in March 2024 to human trafficking with great bodily injury and kidnapping. "Human trafficking offenders will find no safe harbor in San Joaquin County," District Attorney Ron Freitas said, underscoring the county’s strong pursuit of such cases, as reported by Stocktonia.
One victim escaped by jumping from a moving vehicle near Spanos Elementary School, leading law enforcement to rescue a second victim. "This significant sentence reflects San Joaquin County's strong commitment to combating human trafficking," Freitas added, as Ramirez faces prison time and lifetime sex offender registration.
