If you find your eyebrows singeing from smoke over at Cedar Hill Park, don't sound the alarm just yet. The Cedar Hill Police Department has announced that the park will be carrying out prescribed burns from Tuesday, December 9, through Wednesday, December 10. These controlled burns are part of a routine park management strategy to reduce wildfire hazards and maintain the area's natural ecosystem.
According to a social media post from the Cedar Hill Police Department, these fires might affect more than just the underbrush, as some facilities within park grounds could be temporarily shut down. "During this time,some facilities may be closed or affect some areas of our park," says the department's statement. For those of you with plans to visit, it might be a good idea to call ahead at 972-291-3900—just to avoid making the trek for a face full of smoke.
Now, despite the rather fiery disruption, the park isn't closing up completely. It's business as usual, with the added ambiance of a smoky haze. If breathing in the scent of charred mesquite doesn't appeal, you may want to scope out other green spaces—or just cross your fingers for a speedy burn and rapid dispersal of smoke.
