As the holiday season approaches, Charlotte County has announced its government offices and facilities' schedules for the upcoming Christmas and New Year's holidays. According to the county's official announcement, the closures will be in effect on Dec. 24, 25, 26, and Jan. 1, with additional days for certain services.
Government business offices, including Charlotte County Administration Center, Tax Collector, Property Appraiser, and the Supervisor of Elections, will be closed, with the Tax Collector and Property Appraiser also remaining shut on Jan. 2. While you won't have access to these offices, utility services allow for electronic billing and an emergency contact number at 941-764-4300, should an unexpected situation arise with water or sewer concerns, stand-by staff will be waiting, on-call to address any urgent utility issues.
No garbage collection service will occur on Dec. 25 or Jan. 1, which shifts Thursday's service to Friday, and Friday's pickups move to Saturday for these two weeks. Residents can rely on the Zemel Road Landfill, open regular hours on Dec. 24 and 26, while the transfer stations will take a break from regular duty as they close on the holidays mentioned.
Several other county services, including Charlotte County Transit and all Human Services Offices, will not operate on the holiday dates provided. In the realm of community services, recreation centers, pools, and libraries will see various closures; notably, the Englewood Charlotte Public Library and other branches will be shuttered as families gather to celebrate, but the Captain Don Cerbone Memorial Skate Park will remain open to offer space for activities amidst the festal closures.
