
A tragic event unfolded this past weekend in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg area where a single-vehicle collision claimed the life of a local man, and authorities are now delving into the incident, searching for answers. According to a press release from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, the crash occurred on Carmel Road in the city’s South Division.
The incident took place on Saturday, in the late morning hours, police and emergency crews responded to the 1900 block of Carmel Road after the report of a collision. They found a white 2022 Honda CRV SUV situated off the roadway to the right, the vehicle's sole occupant, David Patrick O’Neill, was found unresponsive in the driver's seat; he was transported to a hospital with injuries described as life-threatening, where he was later pronounced dead, and while speed is thought to be a contributing factor in the crash, the question of impairment hangs unanswered, pending the results of a toxicology report.
