In a recent sweep by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, a repeat offender found himself behind bars, and an assortment of guns and drugs were taken off the streets. The operation, as reported by the CMPD on their Facebook page, was part of the department's proactive policing efforts, involving officers from their Central and Hickory Grove Divisions.
The investigation, which centered on a parking deck on the 2200 block of Hawkins Street, led to the arrest of 25-year-old Xavier Derell Simms. According to the CMPD post, officers confiscated a 10 mm Glock handgun, a .45 caliber Glock handgun, and a large sum of $33,032, suspected to be proceeds of illicit activities.
The contraband seized included approximately 337.5 grams of suspected marijuana, around 5.9 grams of what is suspected to be cocaine, and about 15.1 grams of suspected oxycodone, along with drug paraphernalia. In light of these discoveries, Simms is now facing an array of charges. Among them, he is accused of having the intention to sell or deliver marijuana, felony possession of marijuana, and possession of a Schedule II controlled substance.
Additional charges against Simms include carrying a concealed firearm and possession of a firearm by a felon. With the CMPD citing a commitment to "disrupting suspected drug activity and preventing future criminal acts," Simms is also dealing with an accusation of possession of drug paraphernalia, as well as resist, delay, and obstruct.
