It's clear the $1.1 million shoveled into the renovations was more than just a cosmetic makeover—echoing the sentiment that parks are pivotal to community wellbeing, Mark Jerrell, Chair of the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners and representative for District 4, emphasized the direct link between parks and quality of life during the opening ceremony. The county's vision, encapsulated in the Meck Playbook master plan, has transformed the park from an underused natural area into a vibrant spot for fitness, play, and social connectivity, investments are ongoing as the county listens to residents and pivots according to the needs for each unique community.
Nick Walker, director of Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation, highlighted the collaborative effort behind the renovation, stating, "This park is clearly what happens when community comes together," he told MeckNC.gov. "We're reopening possibilities for play, for health, for connection and for pride in east Charlotte." Visitors can now enjoy the results of this community effort at 9120 East W.T. Harris Blvd., nestled right next to local elementary and middle schools, and just a stone's throw away from the Albemarle Road Recreation Center, which is also slated for a major facelift.
