North Dallas is getting a fresh taste of Chicago comfort food. Portillo’s, the Chicago-born chain known for Italian beef and loaded hot dogs, is setting up shop in Frisco, where crews are already raising its garage-themed building near FM 423 and Gordon Heights Lane. The new standalone restaurant will be roughly 6,250 square feet, and construction was projected to wrap by early January, according to leasing paperwork reviewed by local outlets. Once the doors open, Frisco residents will have a much shorter drive for Italian beef, Chicago-style hot dogs and those chocolate cake shakes that have a bit of a cult following.
According to WhatNow, the Frisco location is slated for the northwest corner of FM 423 and Gordon Heights Lane. The outlet also notes that Portillo’s already has a foothold in North Texas, with several DFW locations in Grand Prairie, Grapevine, The Colony, Arlington and Mansfield.
A commercial property listing on Crexi names Portillo’s as the proposed tenant for the parcel and mirrors the 6,250-square-foot figure, signaling that the site is being marketed specifically for the chain. The listing lays out the usual developer details such as zoning, parking counts and lease options, the kind of fine print brokers package when courting national restaurant operators.
Portillo’s has been open about its Texas ambitions after launching its first DFW outpost in The Colony, and company materials have repeatedly circled the Sunbelt, especially Texas, as a priority growth area. In a company release, Portillo’s framed its Texas buildout around filling in markets and hiring local teams ahead of new openings.
What To Expect From The Menu
The lineup will be familiar to Portillo’s fans: Chicago-style hot dogs loaded with the classic toppings, char-grilled burgers, milkshakes and its much-hyped Italian beef. On its menu page, Portillo’s describes the Italian beef as "slow-roasted for 4 hours," thinly sliced and served on fresh French bread, a straightforward formula that helps explain why the sandwich inspires such loyalty.
How The Corner Is Changing
The FM 423 and Gordon Heights intersection is quietly turning into a small dining and retail hub. WhatNow reports that Hideaway Pizza and other concepts are also lined up for the nearby Four Corners shopping center. Those additional leases hint at more family-friendly and late-night options for this fast-growing stretch of Frisco.
Portillo’s has not yet announced an official opening date for the Frisco restaurant. Until the company pins down a timeline, neighbors will be tracking the rising building and refreshing local listing pages for the first sign that Chicago-style dogs are finally on the way.
