A family of four was hospitalized after a dramatic scene unfolded in Puyallup when a 21-year-old man fleeing police struck their car yesterday morning. The collision, which occurred at the intersection of 31st Avenue SW and State Route 512, has left a 4-year-old child in critical condition. The Puyallup Police Department, who identified the vehicle as the same one that eluded officers earlier, informed KING 5 about the ongoing investigation into the incident.
The chase began shortly before 10 a.m. when police sought to stop what was reported as a suspicious vehicle in a business parking lot. According to FOX 13 Seattle, the suspect's attempt to quickly flee the scene did not result in a police pursuit. Nevertheless, the driver led to seriously injure a family when he ran a red light during his escape attempt, colliding into their vehicle.
Authorities did not immediately provide detailed comments on the suspect's motives or the initial cause for the attempted police stop. However, it has been confirmed by the police that the suspect, a Graham resident, is currently under investigation for vehicular assault. All the injured family members were taken to local hospitals, where the young child’s condition remains critical. The scene of the crash saw the 31st Ave. overpass closed for several hours, as reported by KOMO News.
The ongoing investigation might offer more answers, but the immediate concern remains firmly with the family and the recovery of the 4-year-old. No further details about the family's condition were available at the time of this report. Updates will follow as more information is released by the authorities.
