Christmas Eve in West Baltimore was marred by violence as a 27-year-old man was shot and subsequently crashed a vehicle into a residential home. The incident occurred in the 2600 block of West Lafayette Avenue, where Baltimore Police found the victim with a gunshot wound inside the crashed car. According to FOX Baltimore, police arrived on the scene around 6:57 p.m.
The severity of the man's injuries prompted the immediate attention of homicide detectives, even though he was swiftly taken to a local hospital for treatment. This unfolding tragedy comes with a somber reminder of the persistent specter of gun violence in the city. CBS News Baltimore reported a decline in violent crime, with 132 homicides reported this year compared to 189 at the same point in the previous year. Yet, this case has the unfortunate distinction of possibly increasing this tally.
The community is once again urged to step forward with any information. Metro Crime Stoppers can be reached at 1-866-7Lockup, and homicide detectives can be contacted at 410-396-2100 for those willing to offer assistance in the investigation.
