Portland was struck by violence this Christmas Eve, with two individuals hospitalized following separate stabbings in the Northeast section of the city. The first incident took place near NE 30th Avenue and NE Broadway, as reported by KPTV. A second victim was located shortly thereafter, in the vicinity of NE 24th Avenue and NE Hancock Street, per the same source.
Responders were dispatched to the initial scene around 3:30 p.m., with police later finding the second victim, who was then transported to a local hospital along with the first. While details are still emerging, and no arrests have been made, officials are uncertain as to whether the incidents are related. "At this point, we don't know if the incidents are connected," Portland police stated, as noted by KOIN News. The ongoing investigation seeks to establish a potential connection between the two unfortunate events of the day.
Both victims required urgent medical attention, with at least one of the individuals undergoing emergency surgery, according to a transit police officer to KATU News. The police presence was significant at both stabbing locations, with parts of Northeast Broadway cordoned off amidst the investigations. The exact location of the occurrence along Northeast Broadway, however, has yet to be confirmed by the responding officers.
The community awaits further details as the Portland Police Bureau continues its work in piecing together the events that unfolded. While stabbings can shake the sense of security in any neighborhood, the timing, being on Christmas Eve, adds a layer of distress for a community now entering the holiday with two of its own in hospital beds, rather than enjoying the peace purportedly afforded by the season. Both police reports and witness statements will play a pivotal role in what comes to light in the aftermath of these heinous acts.
